Abstract
571,527. Crystallizing nitroguanidine. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. June 2, 1942, No. 7487. Convention date, June 27, 1941. [Class 32] Finely divided crystals of guanidine are obtained by finely dividing a guanidine solution, e.g., by spraying, to form a mist of droplets and supersaturating the solution by cooling or concentration to form fine crystals suspended in the droplets and recovering the crystals therefrom. Nitroguanidine from a make-up tank 1 is fed through a filter 16 and feed tank 5 to a pipe 13 where it is mixed with steam 14 and sprayed through nozzles 15 against a counter-current of air admitted at 11 and drawn off through a pipe 12. A slurry is collected in a trough 19 and after separation of the crystals in a filter 21 is recirculated to the tank 1. Part of the slurry is fed through flushing pipe 18 to wash down the walls of the spraying vessel 10. Modified spray chambers are described which may be of conical formation with provision for admitting air at various heights in the chamber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the crystallization of any solution. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
