Abstract

569,508. Vehicle endless tracks. FOOT, E. H. W. June 25, 1943. No. 10291. [Class 79 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In an endless track for vehicles comprising mutually hinged track plates, each hinge pin 4 floats in an oil bath provided by two gland packing chambers at the extremities of a central sleeve 3 surrounding the pin, each chamber being sealed by a bush cap 7 having a recess 8 at one end, filled with oil, to house the adjacent end of the pin 4. and a recess at the other end forming a housing for a spring 10 which urges the cap into engagement with the gland packing 11. As shown, the sleeve 3 passes through lugs 2, 5 on adjacent track plates. The spring 10 is held in place by a bolt 12 extending through slots 13 in the cap 7 to prevent rotation while permitting axial movement of the cap. The pin 4 has an external longitudinal groove 15 leading From an annular recess 14 and a passage 17 connecting a central longitudinal passage 16 with the groove 15, while a bolt 18, screwed into the sleeve 3, enters the recess 14 to permit injection of oil into the chamber 8. As the packing 11 wears down, the cap 7 is urged inwardly and the gradual inward movement of the end of the cap indicates the degree of wear of the packing.
