Abstract

569,163. Knitting-machines. COTTON, Ltd., W., MAcDONALD, W. G., and COOPER, W. A. July 9, 1943, No. 11132. [Class 74 (ii)] In a straight-bar machine spaced supports 11 are provided for holding a welt rod 14 above the welt fabric and pattern controlled means are provided for lowering the supports to lower the rod on to the fabric and for raising the supports to their rod-receiving position. The supports 11 comprise plungers, each having a recess 13 in which the rod 14 can be lodged, a spring provided upon each plunger bearing upon the end of the rod. Each plunger has a toothed rack 16 engaging a pinion 17, which is rotated under control of a spring 27 to lower the support and is positively rotated by a chain 25a to raise the support. In its lowered position, the rod is engaged by the hooks 19 of the take-up straps 20 and is guided beneatl the welt-bar 23 by horizontal guides 24. The positive rotation of the pinion 17 is obtained by the engagement of a lever 28 having a truck 30 resting upon an inclined ramp 31 which is moved endways by a fork 35 carried by a shaft 34. The shaft 34 is rotated by a rise on a pattern disc 40 to bring an arm 38 carried thereby into register with the draw-bar 33, and upon reciprocation of the draw-bar the shaft 34 is moved axially, carrying with it the . ramp 31. A spring 45 rotates the shaft 34 to move the arm 38 out of engagement with the draw -bar.
