567,796. Hooks. BAILLIE, J., Dec. 24, 1943, No. 21672. [Class 89 (ii)] A rapid release hook is manually operable by a trigger when the load has been relieved from the hook. The hook may be used for lowering boats, and for towing barges, vehicles, gliders, &c. The hook is supported by a base plate 1 in which the member 2, formed with a half hook 3, slides by means of a squared portion that prevents rotation. The hook carries a sleeve 13 mounting a spring 14 adjustably loaded at 15 and normally retracting the hook. A bell crank 17, 18 is pivoted at 19 on the member 2 and linked at 22 to a spring-doaded pin 24 in the base plate and at 20 to a mousing member 5 pivoted to the base plate at 6 and hooked at 8 to engage a projection 9 on the hook 3 when application of the load at 10 compresses the spring 14 bringing the sleeve 13 into solid contact with a washer 16 secured to the base plate. A trigger 27 is pivoted to the member 2 at 29, is weighted at 28 and has a flat side 30 just clear of the base plate in the load bearing position. On relief from the load the side 30 engages the base plate maintaining the hook closed at 8, 9 until a jerk is applied to a rope &c., attached to the trigger, to effect tripping. The spring 14 then disengages the lock 8, 9 and the linkage 17 to 22 swings the mousing member aside leaving the shackle 10 free to disengage. In a modification a handoperated lever is notched to engage a pin on the member 5.
