Abstract

555,377. Making electric discharge tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 26, 1942, No. 7132. Convention date, May 29, 1941. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] The external anode 10 has an annular embossment 44, which supports on the inside a shield 35 for the metal-glass seal 33, and on the outside a collar 37 which supports a cooling jacket. In manufacture, the collar 37, provided with an internal groove, is slipped over the anode. A narrow roller is then run round the inside of the anode to press it into the groove in the collar 37, thus forming the embossment 44. The seal 33 is then made. Finally the shield 35 is inserted in the anode, and the roller is again run round to press it into the embossment. A glass base carrying the other electrodes is fused to the glass skirt. The joint between the collar and-the anode is made water-tight by silver solder 45.
