550,155. Two-stroke engines ; driving-gear. MORRIS MOTORS, Ltd., KENT, R. L., and MORRIS, J. N. Sept. 9, 1941, No. 11542. [Class 7 (ii)] A two-stroke engine has a pair of parallel cylinders a, b, one of smaller diameter than the other and both in communication at their opposite ends, a piston-controlled exhaust passage n being arranged in the larger cylinder a and a piston-controlled transfer passage o in the smaller cylinder b. The cylinder block is closed at both ends by covers d to form common combustion and compression chambers and the piston rods i, j, pass through guides or glands in the cover d of the compression chamber. The charge is admitted by a piston-controlled passage m to the compression chamber and transferred through the passage o to the combustion chamber e. Two or more pairs of cylinders may be provided, one on each side of the crankshaft, the pistons being connected by rods i, j attached to transverse rods r on which slide sleeves s connected to a pair of crank shafts interconnected by toothed wheels u.
