[Class 86] [Also in Group VI] A kitchen machine used for mixing, kneading, straining, mincing &c. is constructed so that the speed reduction unit may be readily removed for replacement or repair. This unit 12, which is shown removed from the machine in Fig. 2, comprises a shaft 15, Fig. 1, belt driven from a pulley 22 on the motor shaft, coupled by a worm and wheel 13, 14 to a vertical shaft 16 the upper end of which is formed with a socket 29 fitted with a liner 37 to receive a coupling member 31 attached to a mixing &c. bowl 38; the coupling is effected by a cross pin 32 and slot 33. These parts are enclosed in a housing comprising top and bottom parts 18, 19, with a gasket 17 between them, secured together by bolts 20 and by longer bolts 21, which also serve to secure the gear unit 12 to the machine frame 10. At the bottom of this frame is a removable base plate 39 secured in place by countersunk screws 40.
