[Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] In positive strand feeding mechanism for knitting, winding and other machines comprising a set of intermeshing toothed members 7, 13, 14 of which one is driven, the teeth of the members each have a top or ridge 7a, 13a bounded at one end by the end wall 7b, 13b of the tooth so that a strand-seizing corner is formed. A thread on its way from the supply to the thread-feeding members 7, 13, 14 passes through an eye 32 at the end of a lever 30 so that when it is desired to discontinue feeding a thread, the thread can be moved laterally from engagement with the members 7, 13 or 7, 14. The provision of strand-seizing corners at the ends of the teeth facilitates the insertion of a thread between the feeding members. On leaving the feeding-mechanism, the thread passes through an eye in the end of an arm 18, and the tension in the thread determines the angular position of a cam 21 to which the arm 18 is attached. Each of the members 13, 14 is mounted for movement towards and away from the member 7 upon a lever 10 having a roller 22 engaging the cam 21. To provide for lateral removal of the thread from the feeding mechanism an arcuate member 29 is mounted upon the side wall of the cam 21, so that upon movement of the arm 18, the lever 30 is moved so that the eye 32 is moved out of alignment with the members 7, 14. An electric stop motion may be provided, a pin being mounted upon the side wall of the cam 21 so that upon excessive movement of the arm 18 in either direction, due to breakage or lack of supply of the thread or undue tension therein, the pin engages a contact strip.
