Abstract

543,563. Regulating. SEBIA, SOC. D'EXPLOITATION DE BREVETS POUR L'INDUSTRIE L'AVIATION, ET L'AUTOMOBILE. Nov. 22, 1939, No. 30594. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1938. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] [Also in Group XXIX] In an engine operating with a supercharger and with transference of a part of the charge from one cylinder to another by delayed closing of the inlet valve, as described in Specifications 365,431, 411,367, and 447,167, means are provided for varying the time of opening of the inlet valve, preferably in accordance with altitude. A corresponding variation in the time of closing of the inlet valve may be effected simultaneously or the time of closing may be independently adjusted. Fig. 11 shows a servomotor device for obtaining an angular adjustment of the cam disc 1 actuating the inlet valves. An arm 6 effecting the angular adjustment is actuated by a rack and pinion 7, 20 and arm 8 connected to the servomotor piston 23, which is controlled by a piston valve 17 connected to an aneroid capsule 16. Lubricating-oil under pressure is supplied to one side of the piston at 13, and oil at a higher pressure to the other side at 15, the piston moving over a series of apertures 18 leading to a return passage 19. The valve 17 is constructed to uncover one of the apertures 18 at a time, with the result that the piston 23 is moved towards this aperture until it is just covered thereby.
