Abstract

540,898. Lighting fittings. SKINNER, G. D. and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. May 3, 1940, No. 7979. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A fluorescent lighting fitting comprises a tubular electric discharge lamp 1 removably mounted in an elongated trough-like casing or reflector 4 with its axis parallel to the length of the casing, the open side of the casing being closed in by a translucent luminescent wall or screen 2. The screen 2 may have a luminescent coating applied to its inner wall or may be made of glass having luminescent material incorporated while in a plastic or molten condition. The outer surface of the screen may be formed with prisms. The lamp 1 may be cooled by filtered air circulated through the casing 4, the air being then delivered into the room in a sterilized condition. The Provisional Specification states that opaque or semi-opaque louvres may project at right angles below the luminescent screen.
