Abstract
532,480. Sand-blast. UNGER, C. E., and AMERICAN FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT CO. Aug. 31, 1939, No. 25016. [Class 60] A projector for shot or cracked pieces of steel, quartz, sand or other abrasive for cleaning castings, forgings, bars and sheets &c. having a rotor 1 with a number of blades 10 terminating short of the axis to provide a central space has in this space a cylindrical chamber 20 for abrasive and a fixed scoop 44 extending from adjacent the wall 23 of the chamber to adjacent the inner ends of the blades, to deliver abrasive from the chamber to the blades. Abrasive is fed by gravity, mechanical means, compressed air, or a combination thereof, through a spout 30 to the chamber 20. The chamber may have a lip 25 extending into a fixed shield 27 and this and the scoop and spout may be adjustable. The inner ends of each blade may have a tapered lip turned towards the direction. In a modification, the chamber has a greater axial length and the spout is extended to deliver the abrasive nearer the bottom 22 of the chamber than the scoop.
