Abstract

531,165. Gas-producer. BRITISH GAZOGENES. Ltd., and GRIGGS, A. R. Dec. 22, 1939, No. 32750. [Class 55 (i)] In a gas producer of the horizontal draught type, and for use in the supply of gas to internal combustion engines for motor vehicles, the air is supplied through a relatively long convergent-divergent tuyere h projecting into the body of the fuel, and the gas is withdrawn through an opposed outlet formed by a curved perforated plate d and extending the full width of the producer. By this means a very high velocity, e.g. between 120 and 150 feet per second is given to the concentrated transverse air current. The plate d may be hinged at e and secured in place by stops f, alternative stops being provided to alter its distance from the tuyere. The tuyere is water cooled, mid feathers l being provided to direct the water along the length of the tuyere. Pulsations are given to the air flow by a rotary disc o in the air inlet pipe m, the speed of rotation of the disc being controlled by a brake block q which is pressed by an adjustable spring r against a brake drum p secured to the spindle n of the disc. The gas passes through pipe g to the engine.
