Abstract
528,824. Two-part couplings. BENDIX. AVIATION CORPORATION. May 15, 1939, No. 14523. Convention date, May 16, 1938. [Class 38 (i)] A multiple-contact coupling has the contacts 14, 40 removably mounted in a pair of insulating members 9, 35 within screw shells 3, 4 one of the insulating members 9 being rotatable in its shell 4 to allow the shells to be screwed together. The member 9 is retained in the shell 4 by a spring ring 33 engaging a flange 10 on the member 9. The other member 35 is fixed in its shell by clamping a flange 37 on the member between two parts 5, 6 of the shell which screw together. The contacts are longitudinally extending blades 14, 40 lying in channels 13, 38 in the surface of the members 9, 35, the contacts 14 having a bent portion 16 that is clamped by a disc 20 bolted to the member 9, and the contacts 40 being bent to clip over projections 46, 47 and being clamped by a disc 48. Correct coupling is ensured by a tongue or projection at one side of the member 9 engage a groove in the member 35 that is wider or deeper than the channels containing the contacts. The contacts are readily removable so that they can be varied in number and the leads can be connected thereto before assembly.
