Abstract
526,697. Cooling motors. PATENTVERWERTUNGS-GES. HERMES. March 23, 1939 No. 9196. Convention date, March 23, 1938 [Class 35] [Also in Group XIII] A motor in an enclosed chamber is separated from the inner wall by liquid absorbent material which is supplied with liquid for transmitting heat from the motor to the wall of the chamber. In the form shown, the motor - compressor unit of a refrigerator is enclosed in a sealed housing 1 from which the motor frame 4 is separated by felt 10 having wicks 11 dipping into an oil sump 8. The motor may be steadied in the housing 1 by springs oi other connections 13, 14. The housing 1 is supported by springs 16, has fins 12 and may be cooled by air from the motor fan 20 mounted on a valve casing 18. The motor casing may be omitted if desired, the felt resting against the stator laminae. In a modification, the felt lining also extends over the part of the housing 1 surrounding the compressor 6 which has a needle valve 9 to facilitate starting.
