Abstract

521,559. Volume control. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and JACOBSEN, B. B: Nov. 18, 1938, No. 33583. [Class 40 (iv)] In a carrier-wave transmission system, control of a gain-adjuster or level indicator is effected by the sum or difference frequency current derived from two pilot currents which preferably 'differ in frequency by a small amount, e.g., 15 or 30 cycles. Preferably the pilots are filtered from the main transmission and fed to a bridge rectifier or other device having a square law. The control circuit may be coupled to the transmission line by means of a hybred coil or like arrangement such as that employed for coupling the negative feedback path to the amplifier described in Specification 506,791.
