Abstract
521,442. Lasting-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., LANE, H., and COOPER, H. E. Oct. 17, 1938, Nos. 29950/38 and 15605/39. [Class 17 (i)] Relates to pulling-over machines of the kind described in Specification 413,010, having pads for clamping the upper against' the last at the conclusion of the updraw. A gauge member is provided, of small dimensions heightwise of the last, so that it may engage the last only near its bottom, and be unaffected by a bulge above this portion. The gauge determines the position of the pulling-over tacks. Both pads and gauge are self-adjusting to the last, swinging about axes more or less parallel to the part of the shoe they engage. The gauging devices are each urged against the work by a spring. Fig. 1 shows a pair of clamping pads 3, 7 engaging the upper and mounted on an arm 5 substantially as described in the prior Specification. Below the clamping pads is a gauging pad 1 shaped to contact with the part of the upper backed by the insole, urged against the shoe by a spring 19 and self-adjusting about a curved guideway 13. A stop piece at one end of the gauge and an adjustable screw at the other provide abutments for the tacker block 27 as this swings in under the insole. In a modification, the lower clamping pad is omitted, and the gauge overlaps the rearward end of the single pad. Specification 396,086 also is referred to.
