Abstract

521,192. Master control of motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CROFT, E. H. Oct. 10, 1938, No. 29304. [Class 38 (iii)] A drum 21 advanced by an electromagnetic ratchet 53 follows up the movement of a pedal operated drum 27 under the control of a current limit relay CLR, having an operating coil 8 in circuit with the motor 1. At advanced positions of the drum 27 an opposing coil 101 on the relay CLR is partially energized so as to give higher acceleration of the motor. A normally energized opposing coil 102 on the relay is de-energized in the field-weakening positions of the drum 21 so as to give lower acceleration in these positions. The coil of the ratchet 'drive 53 is energized through a frictional drag sector 51, so that any backward movement of the drum 27 causes segment 30 thereon to separate from finger 40 and so arrest further forward movement of the drum 21. The relay CLR may also include the feature of rapid notching under certain conditions as described in Specification 521,195. Specification 480,453 also is referred to.
