Abstract

516,250. Automatic volume control. CLARK, H. ÀA. M. July 16, 1938,. No. 21133. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] Compression of a range of signal amplitudes in an amplifier is effected by the use of negative feedback from a resistance R in the output which is in series with a further resistance T, the value of which, at substantially all the frequencies in the range, is an inverse function of the current flowing through it. The resistance may comprise a mixture of silicon carbide, free carbon and a binder such as clay, and may be of the material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Thyrite" or of Metrosil. Specifications 255,221, [Class 40 (iv)], and 479,485, [Group XL], are referred to.
