Abstract
514,916. Electric cut-outs. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. May 18, 1938, Nos. 14887 and 14888. Convention dates, May 25, 1937, and May 26, 1937. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electrical circuit is protected against short-circuit currents by means of a fuse in which a fusible element embedded in a granular arc-quenching medium is provided along its length with more readily fusible portions, the number of such portions being chosen so that the voltage drops at the ends of the arcs formed thereat, after a predetermined quenching period, is greater than the supply voltage but smaller than a dangerous voltage such as double the supply voltage. To make portions of the element more readily fusible, the cross-section is reduced by perforations or recesses as shown in Figs. 8 to 11. A number of sections 33 to 38, Fig. 14, may be furnished with recesses at their ends and welded together at these weakened points to form an element. The more readily fusible may increase or decrease in crosssection from the centre to the ends of the element. The element may be of copper galvanically coated with nickel and chromium.
