Abstract
511,948. Manures. OAKESHOTT, S. H., SEXTON, W. A., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 23, 1938, No. 5793. [Class 111] Compositions useful in liorticulture comprise discrete quantities of peat or other humus-containing material together with one or more plant hormones as hereinafter enumerated, the ratios of plant hormone to humus-containing material lying approximately between 1:1,000 and 1: 1,000,000. The plant hormones used are auxins a and b, heteroauxin, and the synthetic substances #-indolylacetic acid, #-indolylbutyric acid, #-indolylpropionic acid, a- and #-napthylacetic acids, phenylacetic acid, phenylpropionic acid or their esters, e.g. methyl esters, or salts, acenapthalene-acetic acid, anthracene-acetic acid, alpha-napthylacetonitrile fluoreneacetic acid and phenylacrylic acid. The plant hormones may be incorporated in the peat &c. either by a dry mixing process or by spraying the peat &c. with a solution of the plant hormone. In the second case the mixing may be followed by a drying process. Known fertilizers, e.g. ammonium compounds, phosphates, nitrates and potassium compounds, or active carbon or bacteria may also be incorporated in the mixture. Specifications 372,354, 379.956 and 484,981 are referred to.
