508,663. Sealing; perforating. HAHN, H. Jan. 10, 1939, No. 801. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1938. [Class 146 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] In apparatus for fastening sheets of paper together of the kind in which a tongue and a slit are simultaneously formed in the papers, the tongue being pressed through an aperture in the slit-cutter and subsequently drawn through the slit on the return of the parts to normal position, the whole of the mechanism is enclosed in a casing formed of a base part a and a spring-controlled upper part c pivotally mounted in the base. The tongue and slit cutters f, g respectively are secured in the part c and the cutter f carries a pivoted member h. A plate m normally raised by spring n to the top of the slot b for the insertion of the papers, is pressed onto the papers by springs l when the part c is depressed against the action of a spring e. The cutters f, g pass through apertures q, r respectively in the plate m, and; after the cutting has been effected, the part k of the member h bears against the part of the plate m between the apertures to cause the member to pivot and press the tongue through a slot in the cutter g. The base is provided with a rubber foot p.
