Abstract

504,209. Cables. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and SOPER, R. E. S. Dec. 14, 1937, No. 34552. [Class 36] To support the lead sheath 6 and armouring wires 7 of a low capacity land cable of the kind comprising a number of conductors 1 lightly insulated from one another by paper insulation 2 and loosely enclosed in the sheath, so that in addition to the paper insulation a gaseous or air-space insulation is obtained, a selfsupporting helix 4 of metal tape, preferably of copper or nickel, is interposed between the insulated conductors and the sheath. The armouring may serve as an earth wire and the sheath may.be lightly insulated from the helix 4, for instance by paper 5. The cable may be used as a pilot cable in the transmission system described in Specification 416,400, [Group XXXV]. Specifications 7254/06, and 306,816, [both in Class 36], also are referred to.
