[Class 59] In a device for crushing wet materials in a crushing shell, filled with grinding media, which carries out circular or elliptical oscillations in a vertical plane, the internal wall of the crushing shell is provided with a soft resilient liner, e.g. rubber, the thickness of the liner being such that the crushing media are able to penetrate so far into the liner as to cause a meshing of the crushing media in the manner of gear teeth. The crushing device comprises a number of troughs 1 arranged transversely to the direction of movement caused by eccentric oscillating masses or by an eccentric drive. The bed is supported on springs so that circular or elliptical oscillations are imparted in a vertical plane transversely of the troughs. The troughs are closed by a cover 5 and material fed in through hopper 7 is ground by the rods 6, the material ground in each compartment passing to the next through screens 4, the final trough discharging the material to a shoot 8. In Fig. 2, a rod 6 is shown impressed by a force P into the soft rubber lining 24, which may be smooth or waved. Due to the weight of the rod and the direction of oscillation y a tangential force Pt is exerted upon the rod which tends to rotate the latter in the direction of the arrow z so that the mutual friction between the crushing bodies, which opposes a rotation, is overcome owing to the crushing bodies cooperating with the liner in the manner of gear teeth. Simultaneously with the rotary movement, the crushing bodies are thrown upwardly, so that in addition to the jolting movement a packing movement of the rods takes place, so that the rods after having reached a certain peak position fall back to their initial position.
