Abstract

500,771. Pneumatic conveyers for unloading vehicles and storage chambers. KENNEDY, J. E. April 8, 1938, No. 10789. [Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv)] [Also in Groups XVII and XXXII] Comprises detailed improvements in the type of apparatus in which pulverized material is loaded into a container at a source of supply, transported in the container to a storage or like place remote therefrom, and then discharged from the container by fluid pressure. Fig. 2 shows containers 12 adapted to be secured to rail trucks by the bars 26 with screwed ends. Each container has a hopper bottom 14, Fig. 4, surrounded by the lower part of the wall 12. A pipe 53, closed by a cap 55 during transport and adapted for connection to a source of fluid pressure, is branched in four directions as follows : (1) a pipe 68 leads to a ring of valved nozzles 66 delivering . in upwardly-diverging directions along the bottom wall of the container; (2) a pipe 64 leading to an upper ring of valved nozzles 62 delivering tangentially along the bottom wall of the container; (3) a pipe 56 leading to an ejector nozzle 58, Fig. 6, fitted in the delivery conduit 47, and (4) a pipe 69 leading througha reducing valve 72 to convey a reduced pressure to the interior of the container above the material. A blow-off valve 73 limits the pressure to which the upper surface of the material can be subjected. The valves in the nozzles 62, 66 are normally closed by springs to prevent ingress of material, but are opened by the pressure of the fluid. The piping and valves are arranged inside the skirt surrounding the hopper, access being provided by a removable door 16. The delivery pipe 47, Fig. 6 is closed during transport by a bolted-down cap with a long stem 52, and a padlock 50 is passed through one of the bolts to prevent tampering. The container is filled through the top by adjusting the valves 33, Fig. 3, axially by rotating the nut 40 carried on the spider arms 38. This construction allows the fluid pressure to close the valve on to its seating 35 independently of the hand gear. A hinged cover 42 is padlocked to prevent tampering during transport. Handles 90, Fig. 2 are fitted to the container for picking up by a crane.
