Abstract

498,886. Lathes. HERBERT, Ltd., A., LLOYD, A. H., and LONG, L. L. July 14, 1937, No. 19472. [Class 83 (iii)] A copying attachment for a lathe &c., has a stylus or equivalent means for engaging a model rotated in unison with the workpiece, the stylus &c., being rigidly connected with a tool and supported for reciprocal movement dependent upon the contour of the model by resilient means supported from a slide which can be fed to carry the stylus and tool along the workpiece. The base 15, Fig. 1, of the attachment is mounted for transverse adjustment on a slidable support 13. Integral with the base 15 is an upright 16 cut away to form a horizontal U-shape, at the opposite end of the base a second upright 17 of I-shape is secured by a flat spring-plate 18. Four parallel flat springs 19 bridge these uprights and connected near their mid-points is a bracket 20 carrying towards one side a support 21 for the stylus 22 and towards the other side a support 23 for the tool 24 which may be a diamond. Provision is made for withdrawing the tool and stylus at the end of a working movement and comprises an arm 25 integral with the bracket 20 which is engaged by a cam-piece 26 pivotally carried by the base and urged out of engagement with the arm. 25 by a spring 27 ; a roller 29 attached to the cam-piece comes into engagement with stops 29a, 29b, carried by a station. ary bar, at the stroke ends to alternately withdraw and release the tool.
