Abstract
498,715. Cooling water &c. VELUT, R. Dec. 17, 1937, No. 35020. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1936. [Class 29] In apparatus of the kind in which water &c. flowing down horizontally corrugated or embossed plates is cooled by air passing across the plates, the corrugations are of such form and dimensions that water is retained therein by capillary attraction. Thus, e.g., the corrugations in the plates 4 suspended through slots in the bottom of a tank 1 have a pitch h of from 4 to 5 mm. and a depth of from 3 to 6 or 6 to 8 mm. according to whether the plates are supplied with water continuously or intermittently. The plates may be suspended through slots 3, Fig. 3, in segmental troughs supplied with water by a rotary pipe 9. In order to fill the corrugations in the plates, a siphon may be provided to give a large initial supply of water to the tank. Specification 442,922 is referred to.
