498,095. Vehicle bodies; dashboards. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES. Nov. 27, 1937, No. 32814. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1936. [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] A dashboard for a vehicle body is made of a resinous synthetic material in which is incorporated laminated filling material so that the dashboard forms a structural frame member of the body. The dashboard may comprise superimposed paper or fabric strips saturated in synthetic resin, such as the condensation products of phenols or aromatic amines with formaldehyde and is pressed into shape by a hydraulic press and steel tool. Irregularlydistributed materials such as filings, shavings, chippings &c. may also be used particularly at the edges and rounded portions of the dashboard. Fig. 3 shows a cross-section of the dashboard, the leg 5 having a reinforcing flange 7 for connection to the front wall 8 of the vehicle body, which may also consist of laminated, pressed, synthetic resin material, while the leg 6 is secured to and supports the upper edge 9 of the front wall on which is secured the lower edge of the windscreen. Flanges 10, Fig. 1, on the ends of the dashboard are secured to the side pillars 2, 3. Shallow depressions for receiving fittings 13, 14, such as instruments, and cavities 15, 16 for gloves &c. are formed during the pressing operation.
