[Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] The gases from a boiler furnace 22 having water-tube walls are cooled before passing over a superheater 12 and a feed heater 14 in passages 36, 38 formed by water-tube walls 46, 48, 90. The quantity of slag particles entering the passages is minimized by forming the entrance gaps 40 in the wall 46 with screen structures 44. The molten slag collects on the furnace floor 53 and is periodically removed through an opening 58. Tubes 106 connecting lower drums 100, 106 and arranged below the gas pass containing the superheater and feedheater cool the ash particles carried by the gases and allow them to fall on an inclined floor 110.
