Abstract
496,005. Two-stroke engines. EHRLICH, J., and WORKS DEVELOPMENT CO., Ltd. Dec. 3, 1937, No. 33563. Convention date, June 18, 1937. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 7, 1938.] [Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine having twin cylinders 2, 21, each containing a piston - controlled exhaust port 7, 7<1>, the charge is compressed in the crank-case by the pistons and an auxiliary piston 21, connected to the crank-shaft so that maximum compression occurs after the crankshaft has passed bottom dead-centre, preferably by at least 45‹. The compressed charge is admitted to a common combustion chamber 8 through a transfer passage and an engine-driven valve 9 which remains open after the exhaust ports are closed. The pistons are connected to the crank pin by a common connecting-rod, and the arrangement is such that -the total period of exhaust exceeds by 25 per cent the period of opening of one port. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (1) single cylinder two-stroke engine having a piston-controlled exhaust port and a valve-controlled inlet port in the head connected by a transfer passage to the crank-case, charged under pressure by a fly-wheel pump or an auxiliary piston similar to the piston 21 ; and (2) the subject-matter comprised by Specification 33564/37. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
