Abstract

490,203. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 31, 1936, No. 17501/38. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1935. Divided out of 488,268. [Class 40 (iii)] Picture analysing devices 1, 6, Fig. 1, scan different scenes, the resulting picture signals are applied to amplifiers A, B, respectively, which are rendered inoperative in turn by pulses from a generator 8, so that only one of the picture signals is fed at any instant to a common channel 3, 4 and one scene is inset to the other. The amplifiers A, B may comprise picture-signal amplifying valves 33, 34, Fig. 5, of which 34 is rendered inoperative by a pulse applied to the screen grid ; the undesired signal so produced may be removed by similarly blocking the valve 38, phase reversing its output at 39 and combining the pulse so produced with the output of valve 34. The generator 8 supplies frame and line pulses for driving the scanners 1, 6 and for alternately paralysing the amplifiers A, B. The frame frequency pulse is applied through a phase-shifter 53 to an oscillator 54 which produces rectangular frame pulses which are applied over switch M, 55 to the amplifiers A, B, a phase-reverser 12 being inserted in one lead. Similarly, the line frequency pulses are phase-shifted at 67, rendered rectangular at 68 and supplied to the amplifiers A, B. The frame and line pulses may be supplied either singly or in combination by moving the switch arm 55. The portion to be inset is controlled by varying the phaseshifters 53, 67. Specification 458,161 is referred to.
