Abstract

488,268. Television transmitters. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 31, 1936, No. 35805. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1935. [Class 40 (iii)] Signals from only one of a plurality of picture-resolving devices 1, 6 are supplied to a common signalling channel 4 at any instant, in that amplifiers A, B, which couple the analyzers 1, 6 to the signalling channel, are rendered alternately operative by keying- signals of rectangular wave form, which are generated by a further analyzer 9 or 46 scanning a predetermined controlling pattern 11, 47. The received picture thus has one scene inset to the other. For changing from one scene to another, the analyzer 9 has a circle of holes and scans a controlling pattern such as that shown in Fig. 1a which is moved continuously opposite to the scanning disc. Alternatively a film such as shown in Fig. 1b may be used, moved intermittently and scanned by a spirally apertured scanning disc. The analyzer 9 may be an iconoscope. The system may be modified by using only one picture resolving device, the keying-signals then controlling the gain of the amplifier to produce the effect of spot-lighting in the received picture. Alternatively, the keying- signals may be added to the picture-signal to control the shading of the picture. Specifications 417,282 and 458,161 are referred to. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the keying-signals are generated by multivibrators in synchronism with the deflection of the cathode rays, and are passed to control the amplifiers through phase-changers. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
