Abstract

487,089. Mechanical presses. WILKINS, W. S. April 17, 1937, No. 10998. [Class 87 (ii)] In power presses in which the movable head C and crank or eccentric shaft or shafts D, D<1> are arranged on the same side of the bed plate or abutment B, the connecting or eccentric rod or rods E extend from the eccentrics &c. in a direction away from the operative surface of the head C and are connected to the outer end of the head to act as tension members. The movable head C formed as a box-like member is guided in a frame A and is slotted at c to clear the shafts D, D that are driven through a driving pinion K by spur wheels d<1> adapted to dip into oil in the head as the latter rises. The eccentric rods are pivoted to screwed members F adjustable by nuts G rotatably mounted in the frame and provided with gear wheels g in mesh with a common wheel H. The nuts may be adjusted individually by first moving the wheel H out of gear. The machine may be inverted, and, in some cases, the top and bottom tools are mounted on oppositely-moving heads.
