[Class 26] In a siphonic discharge water-closet of the kind in which the discharge passage is provided with two traps, and the space between the traps is connected by an air pipe to the flush pipe so that, during the flush, air is extracted from the space to start the discharge, the whole of the air pipe above the point where it passes into the closet basin is housed within the flush pipe. The flush pipe 8, connected at the upper end by a gland nut 22 with a sleeve 21 on the cistern 9, is screwed at the lower end into a union 10 formed with a flange 11, and adapted, by means of a rubber ring 12, to form a watertight joint when it is pushed nto a socket 6 on the flush chamber 5. Before assembly the ring 12 rests in a groove 13. The air pipe 14, formed with a closed top and holes 15, is screwed into a central boss 16 supported by arms 17 in the union 10. An extension 18 is also screwed into the boss 16, so that, when the assembly is plugged into the closet, its enlarged lower end descends over, and makes an airtight joint with, a spigot 7, fixed in the bottom of the flush chamber and connecting with the space 4 between the outlet traps 3, 3a. The joint is completed by a rubber ring 19, which is rolled down during assembly from its rest position above a shoulder on the spigot 7. To facilitate assembly the lower end of the extension 18 is internally coned at 18a. The flush pipe and air pipe thus form a self-contained assembly. A ring 20 at the upper end of the flush pipe forms a Venturi jet to direct the water on to and around the air pipe.
