[Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Two transmitters 8, 9 transmit the same subject 3 with different characteristics, such as the number of scanning-lines, the frequency of image change, or the number of synchronizing signals. A common sound transmitter 21 transmits on a carrier so situated between those of the image transmitters that the sound and the signals from the transmitter using the less number of scanning lines can be received with a common high-frequency amplifier or local oscillator and intermediate-frequency amplifier. Images a, c which are adjacent on the film 3, or are separated by one image b, are scanned by the scanners 4, 5 of the respective transmitters, and the sound transmitter is modulated by the strip 18 corresponding to the intermediate image b. According to modifications, two films are used, only one of which has a sound strip ; two optical images of the film are formed at different positions by two light sources, Fig. 3 (not shown), or by a single light source, Fig. 4 (not shown), and the rays pass through the film at such an angle as to produce a trapezoidal image which corresponds with the reduction in the scanning path of the disc towards the centre of the disc ; the scanning disc has two or more different spirals or rings of apertures.
