Abstract
479,840. - Plate heat - exchangers. BEHRINGER, H. July 10, 1936, No. 19222. Convention date, July 10, 1935. [Class 64 (iii)] Apparatus, e.g. for cooling or heating air, comprises a stack of flat heat-exchange sheets of metal foil or paper spaced apart by corrugated sheets of like material, the alternate corrugated sheets being arranged at rightangles to the remainder to provide two series of flow passages for the heat-exchange fluids. The apparatus may be formed of sheets 41, 41<1>, the edges 42 of which are folded over while the edges 43 are wrapped around strips 44 of wood or cardboard, and corrugated spacing sheets having folded edges 46 and adapted to fit between the strips 44. The stacked sheets may be secured together by adhesive cement or clamped together by a cover 49, Fig. 2, between angles 50 to which the fluid ducts are secured. In a modification, the strips 44 are dispensed with and the edges of the flat-sheets are folded over the corrugated sheets as in Figs. 4, 5. A series of apparatus may be disposed in a duct as in Fig. 6. Further, the apparatus may be formed of hexagonal sheets in which case heat may be exchanged between three fluids.
