Abstract

475,061. Electromagnetic switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ROYLE, W. May 12, 1936, No. 13433. [Class 38 (v)] The fixed and movable contacts 4, 28 of an electromagnetic contactor are both cylindrical in form, the former being held against a recessed portion 3 of a contact-carrying arm 2 carried by the armature 1 and the latter being clamped between the arms of a permanent magnet 29 provided for producing a magnetic blow-out at the contacts. The fixing of the movable contact 4 consists of a screw 5 engaging one of a series of holes 50 in the contact so that when the contacting surface is worn the contact may be removed and replaced in a different position with the screw 5 engaging another of the holes 50, thus exposing a fresh contact surface for engagement with the co-operating contact 28. The latter contact may be provided with a similar adjustable mounting. The contacts are surrounded by an arc shoot 31 mounted between the poles of the magnet 29 and held in position by spring clips 32. The contact arm 2 is normally held against an upturned projection of the armature by a spring 13 which is compressed when the contacts engage or the attraction of the armature 1 to the fixed core. The armature has downturned projections 16 carrying its pivot pin and is retracted by a spring 22. Auxiliary contacts controlled by the armature consists of a transverse insulated pin 19 adapted to bridge relatively-fixed spring blade contacts 21. Current is led to the movable main contact 4 through a double flexible lead 7.
