Abstract

<PICT:0465386/IV/1> Thin open frames having openings of at least one inch at their greatest width, particularly frames for lampshades, are dipped into a liquid self-hardening composition bath, and are slowly withdrawn in an upright position with the bath maintained quiescent so as to bridge the frames. The composition is of such high viscosity and drying quality that the film formed in each frame begins to dry substantially as withdrawn from the bath. The atmosphere above the bath is maintained substantially free of concentrated solvent vapours. When conoidal lampshade frames are being dipped, the frame must be withdrawn from the bath in the inverted position as shown in the Figure, so that the drippings which flow from the wires 37 do not tear the film as it is produced. Examples are given of suitable compositions for bridging frames having a maximum width of one to six inches.
