Abstract
463,414. Screw sockets. STARCK, A. E. Aug. 28, 1935, No. 24057. [Class 89 (i)] A screw socket particularly for use in screwing down ring bolts, furniture such as tables and chairs, and other articles to a ship deck or other flooring, but applicable also for general use as an anchorage fitment for structures of any kind, comprises a member having a solid cylindrical base 1 with a beaded edge 2<a>, and a tapped hole 3, and a cylindrico-conical hollow portion the cylindrical portion of which is of the same diameter as the base into which it merges ; slits 4 divide the conical wall into tongues 5 which are provided exteriorly with rows of teeth 6 which embed themselves in the plank or like when the tongues are splayed by a cylindrico-conical expander plug moved to the mouth of the socket by means of a tool passed through the tapped hole 3. The face of the cylindrical portion 8 of the plug has a recess 10 to receive the end of said tool; the conical portion 9 of the plug has a boss 12 and teeth 11 which engage teeth 7 on the inside of the tongues 5, so that the plug cannot move backwardly from the mouth of the socket. When the socket has thus been secured in the plank, a screwed bolt engaging the hole 3 serves to attach an article to the plank or to attach the plank to a member such as the metal plating of the deck.
