Abstract

462,722. Parachutes. NONAKA, S. Sept. 10, 1935, No. 25167. [Class 4] A parachute has a number of relatively small resistance members or pocket flaps secured to the back or upper side of the parachute body along its periphery and near the points of attachment of the shroud lines 4. The flaps 1 are stitched to the sail 3 along their edges 6 and at their free edges are formed with a bead or tube 1<1> carrying a wire 2. The flaps are limited in outward movement by cords 7 and the parachute sail is formed with a hole 5 under each flap. The parachute sail is folded in the form of an isosceles triangle with the shroud lines at the middle point of the base and the flaps between the upper and lower layers are folded as shown in the left-hand portion of Fig. 8. The folds 3<1> of the upper layer are folded inwardly and the lower folds 311 are folded downwardly and inwardly so that the folded parachute takes the form indicated in Fig. 10. The flaps 1 adjacent the gaps between the upper and lower series of folds are pulled out and the upper portion is folded so that the complete parachute can be packed in a container, Fig. 12 (not shown).
