Abstract
461,248. Sifting - apparatus; balancing reciprocating parts of machinery; flywheels. DRIGENKO, C. T., TWICKENHAM GRAVEL CO., Ltd., and CORT & SON, Ltd., R. Aug. 9, 1935, Nos. 22525/35 and 8431/36. [Class 117] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXVI] Reciprocating screens 12 are mounted on rigid pivoted links 19 and are driven by an eccentric shaft 14 and eccentric rods 18 connected to the stationary base structure 26 preferably through the resilient connection comprising pivoted links 34 and cushioning springs 40, 41 mounted on a pivoted guide 42. For the purpose of balancing the inertia forces, the shaft 14 also drives rotary or reciprocating masses so proportioned and disposed as to provide inertia forces equal and opposite to those of the screen. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the shaft 14 drives a parallel or co-axial shaft 27, and both carry weights 321, 32<11>, which are disposed so that the centrifugal forces are additive in plane parallel to the plane of the links and cancel each other in a plane at right angles thereto. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), reciprocating masses which may be screens or conveyer troughs are mounted on links similar to 19 and are driven from the shaft 14 through cranks and connecting rods so as to have an equal and opposite momentum to that of the screen. The variations in speed of the shaft 14 are minimized by a spring energy storing device, a flywheel of usual construction or the flywheel shown in Fig. 6. This consists of a casing 52 keyed to shaft 14 and carrying a series of stub axles 55 on which are mounted unbalanced pulleys 62. The axles 55 carry gears 54 meshing with a stationary gear 57 secured to the screen frame.
