[Class 108 (iii)] [See also Group XVIII] A dashpot, used in a weighing apparatus to prevent operation of a printing mechanism before the apparatus has come to rest, has two sets of perforations 5, 6 in the piston and two perforated plates 9, 10 pressed against opposite sides of the piston by an adjustable spring 14. To prevent closure of the liquid passages by rotation of the plates 9, 10 the perforations in the plates or in the piston are connected by an annular groove. In action the sections of flow afforded to the liquid vary automatically and maintain the pressure of the liquid substantially uniform during the damping g operations for all values of the viscosity of the liquid. The piston may work with clearance in the cylinder or a longitudinal groove may be provided between the piston and cylinder.
