Abstract
In the cleaning of metal and other rigid articles as described in the parent Specification, by warm volatile organic solvent of fat emulsified in water by an emulsifying agent such as an alkali-fat or resin soap, an insoluble metal soap, or a textile wetting-agent, preceded and/or followed by treatment with a fat. solvent which is cold, hot, or vaporized: (1) The emulsion is sprayed on to the articles, and is used cold or warm; the article, the spraying nozzle, or both may be moved; (2) The treatment-chamber may be closed e.g. a bell with its open end below solvent or other liquid, or may be filled with solvent vapours e.g. an open vessel heated at the bottom to vaporize solvent and cooled at the top to condense vapour; (3) When a closed chamber is used the articles may enter and leave through the liquid seal, e.g. on a mechanical conveyer which may carry the cleansed articles through a drying chamber; if the sealing liquid be a solvent the passage therethrough may be or form part of the pre-and after-treatments.
