456,501. Polishing rolling-mill rolls. SCHLOEMANN AKT.-GES., D³sseldorf, Germany. April 20, 1936, No. 11233. Convention date, April 20, 1935. [Class 60] A polishing device for the rolls A, B of a plate rolling mill comprises, for each of the rolls, three polishing stones 1, 2, 3, each being traversed about one - third of the length of the roll, and each being capable of being put into and out of oper ation independently so that particular zones of the roll may be treated. ThE stones are moved to and fro along the rolls, through gear ing 5, by means of a motor 4 which may be reversible or operate through reversing-gear, the gearing 5 moving two bars 7, located in bearings 6 and each carrying two arms 8 supporting two shafts 9 on which the stones 2 are mounted. The outer stones 1, 3 are mounted respectively on tubes 10, 11 on the end portions of the shafts 9, and each stone is rotatably mounted in a holder 12 so that as it wears it may be turned to present a fresh face, and locked in the adjusted position by a ratchet and pawl. The stones are pressed on to the rolls by springs 13 engaging adjustable nuts 14 at one end and at their other ends engaging arms 15 connected to the shafts 9 and the tubes 10, 11. The arms 15 also carry cams 16 engaging ledges 8<1> on the arms 8 and rotatable by hand wheels 17, so that the arms 15 may be lifted to lift the stones separately from the rolls A, B.
