Abstract

456,496. Bodies and spring frames for motor - cycles. COURTNEY, O. R., 625, West Main Street, Lansing, Michigan, U.S.A. March 20, 1936, No. 8393. [Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii)] A motor-cycle body consists of a unitary casing for the frame and motor comprising a continuously-rounded upwardly and outwardly extending front portion 3, 5, Figs. 2 and 7, a narrower waist portion 13, and a continuouslyrounded upwardly and outwardly extending rear portion 10, which tapers to a closed rear end 11. A windscreen 6 and a seat 8 are carried by the casing. The waist portion 13 is provided with leg-guards 14. The casing is supported on lower members 15 of the frame, and the front and rear forks are connected respectively to steering-fork and to the main frame by pairs of upper and lower links, with snubbers or resilient shock-absorbers at one or more of the link pivots, a spring being mounted between the top of each movable fork and a projection on the steering fork or main frame. The front wheel 1 is provided with a mudguard 33, Fig. 7, carrying a splash-plate 34. Air enters through a grille 4, passes around the front mudguard and over the splash-plate, around the legguards, through the waist and over the motor, and emerges through the open bottom of the rear of the casing.
