Abstract

452,774. Heating air. MUIR, A. R., 310, Clarkston Road, Cathcart, Glasgow. Feb. 25, 1935, No. 6053. [Class 64 (i)] An air-heating open fireplace heated by solid, liquid or gaseous fuel comprises an inner casing A formed at the top with a flue D, an exterior casing L enclosing part of the flue, and one or more intermediate casings G, J forming two or more air-heating ducts surrounding the fire except at the front and bottom, the air passing upwardly through all the ducts and being delivered to the room by way of louvres, shutters or the like 0, which may be adjustable. In the construction shown, air is supplied to the passages by an inlet U in an exterior wall, and means, which may be thermostatically or manually controlled, may be provided for regulating the inlet of air to each of the passages. Air from the room passes to the innermost passage through controllable openings V beneath the fire, and may also be admitted through controllable openings in the front of the stove to the other passages. When liquid or gaseous fuel is employed, the inner casing A may be reflecting. In a modification, the inner casings terminate short of the outlets, thus providing a space behind the outlets in which the air from all the passages mixes before issuing into the room. The heated air may be delivered by pipes to other parts of the building. Specification 272,358, [CLass 64 (ii)], is referred to.
