Abstract
452,229. Yarns. NAI, A., 13, Via del Conservatorio, Milan, Italy. June 14, 1935, No. 17203. [Class 120 (iii)] In the manufacture of staple fibre rayon yarns by subjecting bundles of continuous filaments to periodic or continuous contact with abrasive or cutting means, e.g. by passing the filaments through an abrasive or cutting ring and causing the ballooning of the yarn during the spinning operations to give the contact between the ring and the filaments, the bundles of continuous filaments are moistened with substances such as glycerine, sulphonated vegetable and/or mineral oils which act as lubricants and while moistened are subjected to the cutting operation in an atmosphere of high relative humidity, i.e. above 70 per cent saturation. As shown the continuous filaments are drawn from a bobbin a by feed rollers b, b<1>, are moistened by the roller c and pass through an abrasive or cutting ring d to be twisted and wound on the spindle f.
