Abstract
449,398. Grinding curved surfaces. MOORE, J. A., 20, Red Lion Street, Clerkenwell, London. Dec. 21, 1934, No. 36701. [Class 60] Two concentric sur faces of different radi of curvature, for example, the two spherical faces of a one piece bifocal lens, are ground simultaneously by a tool which is rotated about an axis c, d in contact with a work blank B carried by a holder C rotatec about an axis a, b. The tool has two grinding faces, namely, ar annular part - spherica face A<1>, the centre of curvature of which is at the intersection of the axes of rotation, and an inner face D<1> of conoidal form generated by rotating about the axis c, d a segment of a circle struck from the point o on the axis a, b, the point o being the centre of curvature of the inner surface to be ground. The tool is made of material not subject to appreciable wear, for example, copper loaded with diamond, or grindstone, &c.
