Abstract

448,239. Broom and mop handles. PREECE, H. A., 91, High Street, Thame, Oxfordshire, and BAKER, R. F., Hatt Common, Newbury, Berkshire. Dec. 3, 1934, No. 34670. [Classes 19 and 61 (i)] A mop, broom, &c. has a shaft of which a considerable portion near the broom &c. head is flexible enabling the head to reach under furniture and the head is pivoted thereto so as to swing about a horizontal axis. The shaft may be made of coil spring or rubber, or of flexible steel tubing which may be in telescopic sections. The device shown comprises a rigid handle 1 in the end of which is secured by set screws 3 a flexible shaft 2 formed of a bundle of metal rods welded together at the lower ends 4 and to a cross pivot 5 at 6, the arms of the pivot being received in wooden blocks 7. The latter receive the mop head consisting of a bag with the yarn 9 secured to the bottom side and the upper side slotted at 10 and secured by press fasteners 11.
