Abstract
448,061. Oil engines. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., Richmond Road, Kingstonon-Thames, and BIGGAR, P. E., 194, Bloor Street, Toronto, Canada. March 15, 1935, No. 8094. [Class 7 (iii)] In an oil engine with overhead valves 3 and a liquid-fuel injection nozzle 1 set in a cylinderhead 5 at an inclination to the cylinder axis with the jetend on or near the cylinder axis and the outer end clear of the valve springs, the nozzle 1 is arranged outside a cover 7 enclosing the valve stems and springs and valveoperating mechanisms. The valves 3, are actuated by rockers 4 from an overhead camshaft 6. The nozzle 1 is mounted in a holder 21 inserted in an opening in a surface 10 at right angles to the nozzle axis and seated in a conical recess in a boss 22 on the inside of a water jacket in the head 5, the upper end of the holder being expanded beneath an undercut lip 23. The nozzle may have a cone or cones of jets arranged coaxial with the nozzle, or the axis of the cone may be inclined to that of the nozzle and parallel or more nearly parallel to the cylinder axis. The plane containing the nozzle axis and cone axis may be situated midway between two jets.
