Abstract

444,384. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 2, 1935, No. 24484. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] A discharge device comprises a metal envelope containing a cathode, an anode, a control electrode and a screening electrode between the anode and cathode. The envelope serves as an external screen for the anode. In an all - metal valve wherein the electrode structure is supported by two posts secured to metal headers closing a cylindrical envelope, the screen-grid is connected to one of the posts supporting the electrode structure. The screengrid lead may then be dispensed with, connection being made to the envelope. In a pentode valve, Fig. 4, the cathode 4 is connected to a metal bar 41 secured to a plate 40 which holds the lower mica disc 39 and is supported by rods 42. The suppressor grid 37 is connected to the bar 41 so that the cathode suppressor grid and envelope are at the same potential. The screen-grid 6 is provided with a lead. The grid and anode leads are taken out at opposite ends and the valve may be mounted in a metal partition screening the ends of the valve from each other.
